How We Rate Platforms: Editorial Policy & Methodology

Last reviewed: March 2026

Independence Statement

This site operates as an independent editorial resource. No platform reviewed here has paid for ranking placement, editorial coverage, or any form of promotional treatment. We do not participate in affiliate programmes with any of the platforms we review — we earn no commission when users visit a platform's website or register an account. Our funding comes from display advertising only, which is allocated without regard to individual platform rankings.

If a platform we review introduces significant changes that affect its ranking — such as a rate change, new fees, new feature launches, or a security incident — we update the ranking at the next review cycle regardless of any commercial relationship or lack thereof.

Ranking Criteria

We evaluate each platform on six criteria. All criteria are weighted equally in our composite ranking score. Platforms that excel across all six criteria rank highest; a poor score on any single criterion is sufficient to reduce a platform's ranking significantly.

1. Exchange Rate Competitiveness (ETH/NGN vs. Mid-Market)

We compare the effective ETH/NGN rate offered by each platform against the mid-market rate published by CoinMarketCap and other reference sources at the time of evaluation. The effective rate accounts for the exchange rate spread — the gap between mid-market and the rate offered to the seller. A platform offering a spread of 1% or less scores highest. Spreads above 3% relative to mid-market result in a significantly reduced score. We also consider whether the rate is shown transparently before the user commits to a transaction, or disclosed only after an irreversible action.

2. Transaction Fees and Total Cost

We evaluate the total cost of converting ETH to NGN and withdrawing to a Nigerian bank account. This includes the explicit trading fee (if any), any network or gas fee requirements specific to the platform, and the NGN withdrawal fee. Platforms that are transparent about their complete fee schedule and minimise total cost for the seller score highest. We penalise hidden fees, fees disclosed only in small print, or fee structures that change without adequate notice to users.

3. Speed of NGN Payout

We measure and verify the time from sending Ethereum to receiving Naira in a Nigerian bank account. Instant delivery (under 5 minutes after blockchain confirmation) scores highest. Sub-30-minute delivery scores well. Platforms that take hours or days score lower. We verify claimed payout speeds with real or community-verified test transactions.

4. Nigerian Bank Account Support

We assess whether each platform supports direct NGN withdrawal to Nigerian commercial banks (GTBank, Access Bank, First Bank, UBA, Zenith Bank, and others) and digital/mobile banking platforms (Opay, Kuda, Palmpay, Moniepoint). Platforms with native NGN bank transfer support score highest. Platforms that require users to separately arrange fiat withdrawal or that charge fees for bank transfers score lower. Platforms with no native NGN bank support (such as Coinbase for most Nigerian users) score lowest on this criterion.

5. Security, KYC Compliance, and Regulatory Standing

We assess the security features and regulatory compliance of each platform. Factors considered include: whether two-factor authentication (2FA) is enforced or available; whether user funds are protected by cold storage or equivalent custody arrangements; the platform's KYC/AML (Anti-Money Laundering) procedures; its history of security incidents; and its regulatory status under Nigerian law (SEC Nigeria registration, CBN VASP framework). Platforms with a clean security track record and strong regulatory compliance score highest.

6. Ease of Use for Nigerian Beginners

We consider how straightforward the platform is for a Nigerian user who has not previously used a crypto exchange. Factors include: the number of steps required to complete a sell transaction; the clarity of the user interface; the quality and availability of the mobile app (Android and iOS); the availability of customer support in a Nigerian time zone; and whether the process requires technical knowledge of Ethereum that a typical user would not have.

Data Sources and Review Cycle

Our evaluation data comes from: platform fee schedules and official documentation; test transactions conducted directly or through verified community contributors; user reviews from Nigerian crypto forums and social media communities; and periodic comparison of ETH/NGN rates across all ranked platforms. Rankings are reviewed quarterly, or immediately following a material change to a platform's fees, features, or security status.

Platform Submission and Corrections

If you represent a platform and believe it should be included in our ranking, or if you believe a platform has been inaccurately described, please contact us at contact@best-platform-to-sell-ethereum-in-nigeria.com. We will review any submission or correction request on its merits. Submission does not guarantee inclusion, and inclusion is contingent on meeting our minimum evaluation criteria.

We welcome corrections from any source — readers, platform representatives, or independent researchers. If you can demonstrate with evidence that a platform has been inaccurately rated, we will update the relevant content and note the correction.
